Oporto Resort Guide

Oporto – located at the northern end of Portugal\'s west coast

Oporto is a brilliant resort to visit all-year round and attracts many mature couples. Those with walking difficulties may find some areas of the resort difficult as it can be quite steep. The transfer time for Oporto from the airport is anything from 15-30 minutes meaning you will have plenty of time in the resort itself. Oporto itself is not a beach destination but it is for those who enjoy sightseeing. The resort can get crowded in the summer but this is the same in all resorts. There are nearby resorts offering beaches. You will everything from budget accommodation to 5-star hotels. You will find many apartments offering self-catering and hotels offering half-board and all-inclusive.

Oporto – plenty of sightseeing to be done

Oporto has a very historic city centre with museums, a cathedral and old churches. The museums show things such as modern arts, glassware, ceramics, 18th-19th century art and 19th century furniture. There are also a number of parks as well as a number of wine cellars and religious festivals that occur throughout the year. There are a number of excursions for you to go on such as city tours, river trips, trips to local wine vineyards, tours and cruises of the Douro river valley and visits to the beaches of the Costa Verde and Vila do Conde.

Oporto – a number of restaurants to choose from

Oporto offers a lot of seafood and Portuguese food in the restaurants. You will also find other traditional dishes such as meat stews and dried salt cos. Fast food outlets are slowly becoming apparent in the resort and there are now eateries such as pizza houses. Cafés will also have snacks to keep you going during the day. There are a number of late night bars in Oporto with many of them located along the riverside. The lively discos are on the outskirts of the resort but are easily reached with public transport. Pop and rock concerts can be seen as well as a number of theatres and classical music venues. Public transport in the resort is quite good with a number of local buses and trams. There are also trains that take you into other resorts. Taxis are relatively cheap and can be found all over the resort.

Oporto – over 3,000 hours of pure sunshine a year

The weather in Oporto is what attracts to many people each year. The summers in Oporto are long and dry with winters continuing to stay mild with limited rainfall. July and August are the hottest months in Oporto with average temperatures reaching 33°C. You will also find up to 12 hours of sunshine a day meaning you have plenty of time to enjoy the day. The coastal breezes tend to keep the temperatures slightly lower to enable you to feel more comfortable in the heat. The spring and autumn is still warm with temperatures at 17-19°C. The coldest winter months are January and December although the temperature is till at around 15°C. There is also still around 6 hours of sunshine a day. From November to March is when most of the rainfall comes however on average there are only around 50 days of rainfall a year.
